Cydefx was started by Andy and Carl. The idea was inspired by Andy’s very large apple tree in his back garden, It’s a Bramley’s Seedling and was planted by a previous owner in 1984. For years it has produced a modicum of fruit and whilst Andy’s kids were growing up the tree took quite a bit of pruning — a tree house platform occupied its core for at least 10 years. After removal of the platform, the tree was allowed to flourish and for successive years the volume of fruit has increased considerably. After giving away most of the fruit to his neighbours, Andy made some cyder that was quite sharp, very dry and lightly sparkling; despite this it soon went with the help of some friends.

The following years has seen the collection of apples from donors within a small radius of Ipswich, blending them to create both Eastern Counties (from dessert apples) and West Country (from cyder and crab apples) styles of cyder. We also make cyder for people with their own orchards who then sell as their own branded product to their customers.
